SYNOPSIS : Coleman is the story of Detroit’s first Black Mayor who reigned supreme for 20 tumultuous years at a time in this country’s history where black leadership was beginning to emerge. Mayor Coleman A. Young was a progressive mayor, who was elected to an unprecedented five consecutive terms before retiring from public office in 1994. Love him or hate him Mayor Young’s prominence was undeniable which was threatening to MANY on the far left. Blamed for all Detroit’s woes, Mayor Young pioneered much of Detroit’s transformation during the hardest economic times of the city’s history.
